Abstract
Hydrogel is a three-dimensional network of hydrophilic polymer that has the ability to absorb biological fluid (almost 60-90% of weight) and still maintain structure because of physical and chemical cross-linking. In the present scenario, the hydrogels are attracting many material scientists and biomedical researchers to explore numerous applications, and great strides have been achieved to date, especially in terms of their formulations and applications with the help of hydrogel. The chapter focuses on understanding hydrogels conceptually from their basic classification, method of preparation, pharmaceutical applications, and also utilization in domestic and biomedical products.
