Abstract

Increasing use of agro chemicals in crop production for management of different types of biotic stresses has become the serious environmental and health concern. The unmindful use of these chemicals is the reason for increasing greenhouse gas emission, water body pollution, and toxic residue in the food items. There are good agronomic practices that can minimize biotic and also abiotic stresses in crop production, if followed properly. The crop diversification, balanced use of plant nutrition, protecting the friendly bio agents naturally occurring in the crop field are some of the effective non-chemical methods for pest management. Herbicides increasingly provide a suitable shift for the weed control function of tillage, but the overall effective strategy is to adopt good crop husbandry. The refinement of the seeding and crop establishment methods and standardization of conservation agriculture practices will make such systems progressively striking economic alternates for non-chemical pest management.
