Abstract
Various investigators have arrived at differing conclusions about the influence of the mandibular structure on hearing by bone conduction and, specifically, its contribution to the occlusion effect. A patient was studied whose entire mandible had been surgically removed as a result of cancer. Reliable occlusion effects were measured in both ears on three separate occasions. Conclusions are qualified by the absence of preoperative data.
