“Stuttering” in Normal Speech

Abstract

“Stuttering” in normal speech occurs more on lexical items than on function words, This and other recent general research in hesitation phenomena correlate closely with previous research in the loci of stuttering in the speech of stutterers. They all suggest the “stuttering” is closely related to grammatical factors. Current research by both descriptive linguists and by psycholinguist will be of relevance to further research in the properties of stuttered words.
