Abstract
A rare, highly disabling auditory disorder, generalized auditory agnosia, is discussed. Therapeutic means of establishing hearing attention, sound associations, and retention of sound relationships are presented as part of a program to establish projective hearing that uses environmental sound meaningfully. To establish insight that is precursory to learning about speech-sound production, the program focuses listening attention on the sound-producing ability of the human vocal mechanism.
