Abstract

The relevance of the issue under study is intensified in the current economic situation with the sanctions imposed against Russia: the economic development of the country depends on its regions. In these conditions, the role and importance of conducting a study of the socio-economic situation (SES) of the regions increases. The Rating agency RIA Rating annually surveys and ranks the SES of the RF subjects based on the study of indicators united into four groups: the scale of economy, efficiency, budgetary, and social spheres — as well as the rating of the population’s quality of life accounting for more than 70 indicators united in 11 groups. In both ratings, the agency does not rely on the Gross Regional Product (GRP), though in the author’s opinion, it is the main indicator of the regional economy. The article considers the role of the Tyumen Region in the economy of the district and the country through the prism of GRP, indicators considered in the SES rating, and quality of life. The article aims to determine the economic role and significance of the Tyumen Region, the impact of the region’s level of economic development on the quality of life of its population. The study is based on the official data from Rosstat and RIA Rating. The study has shown the existence of interrelation of GRP indicators, socio-economic status, and quality of life. The practical significance of the study lies in the perspective of using its data in practical activities in the development of regional social policy.
