Abstract
Thiazole and thiadiazine derivatives are heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen and sulfur. They have a wide range of medicinal applications. The present study aimed to investigate the anti-hyperglycemic and antioxidant properties of two novel thiazole and thiadiazine derivatives using streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. The two synthesized compounds significantly reduced hyperglycemia and restored pancreatic insulin secretion in the treated diabetic mice. Also, the two compounds lead to a decrease in the serum triglyceride level and an increase in pancreatic SOD activity in the treated diabetic mice. The LD50 value of the two compounds using the IP injection route was greater than 300 mg/kg body weight. Further studies on these two compounds, especially mechanisms of action, are required to develop them into potential anti-diabetic drugs.
