Abstract

Aqueous solubility poses a major problem for dissolution of a wide variety of drug molecules. This problem also hinders formulation development of new drug entities. A wide range of newly synthesized molecules developed by pharmaceutical industry are practically insoluble in water. Due to sparingly soluble nature of these compounds, proper pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies cannot be carried out. This review aims to elaborate some popular approaches that have been tried successfully by various researchers to increase aqueous solubility of many organic molecules. These approaches can be used alone or in combination, depending on the properties of the drugs.
