Abstract

This article is devoted to translation criticism as one of the fi elds of translation studies. On the basis of the theoretical work of Edward Balcerzan, James S. Holmes, and Katharina Reiss, the article defi nes ideas behind and aims of translation criticism, and then looks at specifi c methods of analysis. The fi nal part concerns the use of corpus linguistics in translation research and the problem of translation universals.
