Abstract
The article presents an Arduino-based lux meter for measuring light intensity passing through sunglasses to analyse its polarisation ability using Malus’s law. The experiment uses a rotationable polariser film with its degree tester as the first polariser. The fixed sunglasses are the second polariser. The background light intensity is measured by the GY-30 module light sensor. The experiment is provided for first-year university science students. The students can vary the angles between the transmission axes of the first polariser and the sunglasses, and then observe the light intensity from the lux meter. We found that the laboratory demonstrated highly accurate values for the used sunglasses.
