Abstract
Abstract
This paper presents nonlinear control of a Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) based Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) and Five-Level Neutral Point Clamped Voltage Source Converter (5L-NPC-VSC). For WECS, the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is a very important requirement in order to maximize the effectiveness. Therfore, MPPT approach and grid-connected control methods are discussed. On the other hand, the proposed control techniques are based on Sliding Mode Approach (SMA) and Vector Control (VC) to achieve the MPPT, to keep the dc link voltage constant and to the control active and reactive powers. The stability of the regulators is obtained using Lyapunov analysis. An extensive simulation study, using MATLAB/Simulink, is conducted on a 4-MW wind farm composed of two 2 MW PMSG based wind turbines.
