Abstract
Abstract
Veneer is intended as a relatively thin cover soil layer placed on a slope. Veneer cover soil systems in containment facilities such as landfills, liquid disposal and reservoirs involve geosynthetic-soil interfaces. The main design criterion for protective veneer covers is to ensure that no sliding occurs above the geosynthetic or the existing soil slope. The design of the protective veneer covers should include the stability of the lining system under the effect of the gravity forces, equipment loadings, seismic actions and pore water pressures. The limit equilibrium method used in the present paper for the evaluation of veneer stability has been derived from the method of Koerner and Soong (1988) and adapted to the limit state design offered by Eurocode 7 with reference to the Resistance Factor Approach (RFA). Serviceability limit state considerations are included in the design method for completeness.
