Abstract

Abstract PT Makassar Tene is a factory that produces refined sugar from raw sugar. But in the sorting of auxiliary materials such as sacks is still done manually. The process of sorting sacks at PT Makassar Tene uses female workers over the age of 40 years. The conditions of work attitude carried out by some female workers are still many that are not ergonomic. The wok attitude is sitting, standing, hunchback and lifting weights more than a maximum burden that is tolerated by a woman’s body which is 10 kg if done continuously. Pain complaints have been felt by workers due to inappropriate work postures, in the form of pain in the hips, waist, knees, shoulders and upper arms. The existing problems need to be evaluated on physical factors in sack sorting activities by identifying and analyzing the overall work posture. The methods used are OWAS and REBA. Both of these methods are able to define the movement of all parts of the worker’s body so that it can improve overall body movement. Therefore, this study carried out observations to determine the level of risk caused by work posture when carrying out sack sorting activities by comparing the OWAS and REBA methods in female workers PT Makassar Tene. Based on the results of the study, it is known that there are several identified sorting activities of sacks at risk for musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) in female workers. The activity are the process of lifting sacks to a pallet with a level of risk from slightly dangerous to very dangerous in the OWAS method and from medium to high in the REBA method. And the process of arranging sacks with a level of risk is very dangerous in the OWAS method and medium to high in the REBA method. So that it is necessary to improve the posture of the worker as soon as possible, especially in the activities of lifting and arranging sacks.
