Design of Digital Meters for Industries using Data Acquisition System

Abstract

Energy Monitoring is one of the most important routine that is carried out in every industry as a key process of Energy Management. The prime reason for energy metering is to ensure that the processes are done efficiently. Through energy monitoring, the energy consumption on a particular period is easily obtained thus helping to find the energy usage in a day and taking steps to improve energy efficiency. The energy consumption in a particular period of time is obtained using a digital meter. The meters in today’s industries are digital meters and support serial communication. The energy meters present in the plant are connected to the server and are made to transfer their data directly to the server. This eliminates the man-hours wastage of every employee who performs this energy monitoring. The Man hours for a medium sized plant with 75 Digital meters spread across the plant was reduced to 2 hours/day.
