Offshore wind farms, with their abundant and stable wind energy resources, have become the main trend of wind power development in the future. Based on voltage source converter (VSC) transmission technology and diode rectifier unit (DRU) as the hot spot technologies for offshore wind power delivery, they have different characteristics in practical applications. This paper compares the engineering economy of VSC and DRU from the topology of offshore wind power delivery. It combines the key technologies of DRU control. It proposes grid connection performance testing indicators. It builds VSC and DRU offshore wind power DC delivery models, respectively, based on PSCAD/EMTDC simulation software to compare and analyze the operation effects after their faults. The research results show that DRU has a faster response and better support ability than the VSC scheme.
