General formula of shakeup and shakeoff probabilities for arbitrary shells

Abstract

Synopsis General expressions for the shakeup and shakeoff probabilities following sudden change in central potential have been obtained for arbitrary atomic shells by the use of nonrelativistic hydrogenic wave functions. The final formulae are given in terms of Gauss-type hypergeometric functions. The obtained results are used to calculate the shakeup and shakeoff probabilities for outer-shell electrons following β−decay.
