Abstract
The creative thinking process needs to develop for junior high school students because of the transition period from elementary school level. This study describes the creative thinking process of junior high school students in finding solutions to a math problem. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects in this study were two class VIII students. Data collection techniques used were test methods and semi-structured interviews. From the data, it was obtained that Subject 1 and Subject 2 had differences in the preparation and incubation stages where at the preparation stage Subject 1 read and observed the questions given silently then wrote down the information contained in the questions while Subject 2 read and observed the questions given softly without writing the information in the questions. In the incubation stage, Subject 2 took a longer time than Subject 1 in determining the strategy to be used. At the illumination and verification stage, Subject 1 and Subject 2 have the same thing to find a strategy to solve the given problem and only re-check the answers or solutions obtained when interviewed.
