The Effectiveness Comparison of Improving Learning Outcomes in the CORE Learning Model and the Conventional Learning Model

Abstract

The gap and the high variation in the quality of education between various regions have become a hot issue that has been discussed every time. Various discourses were put forward as efforts to improve quality. The quality of education is the result of the process. The learning model as one of the components in the learning process is often a concern. One of the assumptions of low education is due to conventional models’ learning process. Active learning models are believed to be able to improve student learning outcomes. However, the learning model partially does not contribute much to improving learning outcomes. Therefore, the hypothesis is put forward that the effectiveness of improving student learning outcomes between conventional and active learning models has the same criteria. Proving the hypothesis is the aim of this study. The research results are expected to contribute scientific references for developing strategies to improve student learning outcomes. The object of research is the material of Light and Optics, whose learning is carried out in three meetings. The quasi-experimental method was used in this study; randomization was carried out on the sample group (study grade). The research data are the results of the pre-test and post-test. Improved learning outcomes were analyzed using the N-Gain concept. After the learning process using the CORE model, it was found that there was an increase in student learning outcomes of SMP Negeri Banda Aceh City on Light and Optics.
