Abstract

Abstract An energy stable alternative weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory (WENO) scheme with a new smoothness indicator (EAWN) is proposed in this paper. The developed EAWN scheme is stable for linear problems by adding a correction operator and can recover the designed order of accuracy at critical points with no dependency on user-defined parameter for smoothness indicators. Application of EAWN in one-dimensional and two-dimensional hyperbolic conservation laws also indicates the superiority of the new method over its non-modified version in terms of shock-capturing and vorticity-resolving.
