Abstract

Abstract This article investigates the influence of clearance joints on the dynamic characteristics of deployable structures and the contact characteristics inside clearance joints. An explicit dynamic modeling method is employed to formulate the governing equation of the structure, integrating the contact forces. Initially, a planar deployable structure is subjected to analysis to discern the effects of clearance joints. Subsequently, two distinct dynamic analyses are meticulously conducted to discern the nuanced effects of clearance size. The outcomes offer conclusive insights; clearance joints substantially influence dynamic responses and prolong the structure’s vibration period. The unrestrained motion of joints contributes to increased kinetic energy within the structure. Furthermore, a larger clearance size exacerbates these effects. In conclusion, the findings underscore the significant effects on the structure’s dynamic characteristics, which should be seriously taken into consideration in the design and modeling process. This necessitates meticulous consideration in designing and analyzing high-precision space structures to ensure accurate predictions and optimal performance.
