The Arrangement and Cross-sectional Shape of Cooling Fins on Train Brake Discs

Abstract

Abstract Taking into account physical factors such as the wind effect of the brake disc pump, heat dissipation power, and temperature rise, the optimal cross-sectional shape and layout of the brake disc cooling fins are studied. The flow field distribution and pump-wind heat dissipation power ratio of four different cross-sectional shapes, namely circular, elliptical, square, and rhombic, are compared and analyzed. The flow characteristics, wind effect, and heat dissipation power of the cooling fins under two different layouts, namely crosswise and parallel layouts, are also analyzed. The research results show that the circular cooling fins have the optimal pump-wind loss and heat dissipation power, and the crosswise layout of cooling fins shows the best comprehensive performance. The performance analysis method of cooling fins obtained in this paper provides a reference for the optimization design of brake disc structures.
