Influence of brake chamber pressure and effective cross-sectional area on time delay of pneumatic braking system

Abstract

To face the problem of freight safety and reduce the traffic accidents, the influence of the response time of the pneumatic braking system on the braking performance should be investigated, which can improve the safety level of vehicle. The mathematical model of the pneumatic braking response time was established in this paper. The parameters of the pneumatic braking time and the time delay characteristics of the pneumatic braking system was discussed. The results show that the pressure and effective cross-sectional area of the brake chamber are the main factors affecting the time delay of the pneumatic braking system. When the effective cross-sectional area of the brake chamber is certain, the push rod stroke of the brake chamber increases significantly with the increase of air pressure; when the brake chamber pressure is constant, the larger the effective cross-sectional area of the brake chamber, the greater the output thrust of the brake chamber push rod.
