Abstract
Abstract
In the context of global efforts to transition to a circular economy and minimize environmental pollution, various methods of waste management have been developed. Among them, used engine oil is a dangerous pollutant, but also a resource with high economic value. In this sense, superior recovery is aimed, either by recycling in order to obtain base oil or by producing alternative fuels, thus minimizing the consumption of natural resources and reducing the amount of improperly managed waste. This article’s purpose is to describe the main technological processes underlying the production of alternative diesel fuel from used engine oil. International industrially applied technologies that produce diesel fuel by treating used engine oil are also exemplified, and the main benefits of this process are described.
