Realizations and invariants of Lie algebras

Abstract

Abstract Lie algebras of first-order differential operators with smooth coefficients are considered and their construction methods are reviewed. Obstacles preventing contractions of such operators are emphasized and a constructive procedure for parameterizations is proposed. A number of illustrative examples are considered.
