Abstract
Abstract
The focus of this study is to see if Friction Stir Processing can improve the properties of an aluminium alloy with Boron Nitride (BN) particles on the surface. Friction Stir Processing (FSP) is a new surface alteration technique that uses friction to cause plastic deformation, resulting in grain refining and improved mechanical and surface properties. To process 2024 aluminium alloy plates, a straight cylinder tool was used under varying process parameters and to conduct tensile, hardness, wear and impact studies. The findings were evaluated in order to infer the significance of the process parameter and the reinforcement of the metal improvement properties. Friction Stir Processing was effectively processed by reinforcing the Boron Nitride plates and achieved significant changes in the mechanical and surface properties.
