Abstract

Abstract The article considers the developed technology of producing sorption material based on chemically and thermally modified cereal grain husks for removing accidentaloil spillsfrom water surface. Equipment, modes and conditions for modifying the surface of a new adsorption material in order to increase the sorption capacity in relation to oil and construction of mats are proposed. The calculated cost of the resulting modifiers is tenstimes lower than the standard adsorbents used inaccidental oil spill responses. Additionally, a threefold use of treated sorption material based on modified crops waste by pressing has been theoretically justified. It is proposed to incinerate the waste generated as a result of accidental oil spillremoval from the water surface in a pulsate combustion unit at a temperature of 1100 °C. The hazard class of ash generated during combustion has been determined – class 3. Semi-industrial tests with the proposed modified materials for the elimination of emergency oil spills on the surface of an unnamed stream have been carried out. As a result, the concentration of oil in water decreased by 99.99 %, as well as toxicity.
