Minapadi Media Design for Fish and Rice Cultivation Systems in Dry Land

Abstract

Abstract The area of agricultural and fishery land will decrease in the future. One of the potential efforts to be developed in increasing the area of agricultural and fishery land is the conversion of dry land into rice fields which is also a medium for aquaculture (minapadi). This study aims to obtain an applicable Minapadi design applied in dry land so that it can increase land productivity, expand agricultural land and efforts to increase food in the form of plants and fish. The stages of the research carried out consist of: (a). designing and building the Minapadi system (b). Minapadi system performance test (c) fish and rice cultivation (d). Conclude and provide system recommendations for fish and rice cultivation. The minapadi system starts from designing the minapadi media for dry land made by scribbling the soil, covering the pond with plastic tarpaulin, inserting the rice planting media into the pond, and arranging the air space as a place for fish to live. The performance test of the Minapadi system on dry land that has been made shows good results, namely being able to change dry management into rice fields that work as a place to grow rice while raising fish. The rate of evaporation of air in this dry land mining system is 0 - 90 liters/day, the design of the system measuring 3 m x 3 m x 0.5 m can be used as a medium for cultivating catfish, tilapia and betta with densities of 55, 22 and 11 fish, respectively/m2. The growth of rice planted on the media is quite good with the advantage that the planting media can be moved to adjust the space for fish to move. The final recommendation given is that this system has the advantage of being able to become a medium for cultivating various types of fish and possibly for growing various plants, worthy of being the choice of an integrated system model to be applied to Indonesian society in the future.
