Abstract
Abstract
This research was conducted to examine the pH value and physical quality of Gama Umami grass silage which was supplemented with legume and pollard. This study used a completely randomized design with 4 types of treatments, they were P0: GU grass 95% + calliandra 5%; P1: GU grass 90% + Calliandra leaves 10% + pollard 2.5%; P2: GU grass 80% + Calliandra leaves 20% + pollard 5%; P3 : GU grass 70% + Calliandra leaves 30% + pollard 7.5%. Each treatment was replicated 5 times. The ensilage was carried out for 21 days. The results obtained were then tested for pH and physical quality which included color, odor, texture, and the presence of fungi. The best pH results were found in P1, however, calliandra and pollard supplementation for Gama Umami grass silage had no significant effect (P<0.05). Meanwhile, in the physical quality test, P3 has better quality than the other 3 treatments. It was concluded that the supplementation of calliandra and pollard at P3 produced a physical quality of color close to silage material, sour odor, no slimy texture, and no fungus found.
