Abstract
Abstract
Bamboo forests have ecological and economic functions. Bamboo is a commodity with bright prospects if it is widely developed in forestry. Bamboo standing stock and its derived product are important to be measured. The research aimed to identify bamboo species and analyze the benefit type of bamboo in North Sumatra Province. The sample analysis was carried out by analyzing the existing bamboo growing stock. The stratification interview technique with bamboo garden owners regarding the use of bamboo is based on local wisdom. A square plot of 50 m x 50 m was measured to get a standing stock of bamboo. The research found Gigantochloa sp. dominates the bamboo forest. The bamboo products are on a large scale, but they have not been sent out of town because they are very cheap and expensive in transportation. Many bamboo farmers have switched professions because of the low price of bamboo.
