Abstract
Abstract
This study examines the potential of the sago plant industry in Meranti Regency, Riau Province, Indonesia. Through field surveys and sampling, it is known that Meranti Regency has a suitable land area for sago growth. The high potential of sago production is the basis for the sustainable development of the sago industry. In addition, sago waste such as dregs, wastewater, and unused sago bark, can be processed into products of economic value such as animal feed, organic fertilizers, building materials, textile fibers, and bioenergy raw materials. The potential of the sago waste industry in Meranti Regency promises economic, environmental, and social benefits. Government support, infrastructure investment, and socialisation efforts are needed to build public awareness and knowledge about the opportunities of the sago waste industry. By optimising sago waste treatment, this area can reduce negative impacts on the environment, create jobs, and improve the welfare of local communities.
