Abstract

Abstract Energy and environmental issues have played an important role in developing sustainable industries. The incorporation of lightweight materials into various structures enables a reduction in both weight and fuel consumption, resulting in saving energy. So, the selection of material and joining techniques have contributed significantly in these problems. This paper focused on the assessment of dissimilar lap-joint between AA6061 to SS316 using green technology as friction stir welding. The effect of welding parameters on the properties of joints was assessed. The test results showed that the welding interface is sensitive to rotational speed. The joint with the highest strength is approximately 6200 N at 700 rpm. In this case, the joint was fractured in heat effected zone on the aluminum side. The welding interface was revealed by using scanning electron microscope and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy images to analyze the joint quality.
