Abstract

Abstract The recent urbanisation in the developing nations of the world, rise in population, increase in human activities. Pattern of production and consumption has resulted to generation of huge amount of waste that must be properly disposed, treated and managed to ensure sustainable environment and a decent living for the increased population. The current waste management practices are not effective and efficient enough to handle the rise in waste level. The traditional approachhas led to this challenge. This paper deals with a systematic review of existing literatures, identifying and characterizing active research activities on smart waste bin that will allow effective waste management. There is a great need for deployment of this Smart technology on a large scale in the developing nations of the world for a sustainable healthy and clean environment. However, the cost of applying such solutions is still relatively high.
