Abstract
Currently, research on an energy-saving device only focuses on the effective operation of this device. Structural assessment is needed to evaluate the reliability of the interceptor in operation conditions. In this study, 25 mm thick interceptors are evaluated using the finite element method to find an optimized position of the bolt connector. The simulation shows that a smaller size of bolt connector leads to a higher maximum stress of interceptor. Based on the position of the bolt connector, it has a similar pattern in every bolt size. Overall, the best choice to install this device on the boat is between 140 mm and 240 mm of bolt distance. This distance is advised for installing an interceptor in the existing boat structure to avoid weakening the boat structure.
