Abstract
Challenges and opportunities of creating value through information delivery from renovation projects to Facility Management is an ongoing issue for the built environment. Eight interviews were conducted with FM, project management and construction management involved in renovation projects to examine this issue closely. The finding support existing work from new project delivery in the need for ongoing coordination of information flows between projects and FM. However, there is less understanding on how this information is integrated into FM practices and the role of FM in project processes in creating long-term value of renovated buildings. The outcome is that there is a to incorporate FM into the current framework of project process as a continuous role to ensure FM knowledge is embedded in data systems. Both coordination processes and clear communication interactions is required to build meaning into data that can be adapted to different knowledge discipline bases working in different times and contexts across the building lifecycle. The research is relevant to practitioners and educators on illustrating how FM need to evolve and engage/be invited into projects decision-making that has long-term implication for FM services and digital systems throughout the building life-cycle.
