Analysis of The Effect of Large Population on Nitrogen Dioxide and Carbon Monoxide Levels in Java Island Using Sentinel-5P

Abstract

Abstract Java Island has the largest population and population density in Indonesia. One of the impacts that arise due to high population density is the high rate of pollution. This study focused on how to study air pollutants that occur in Java due to the high population density. Pollutants to be studied are nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and carbon monoxide (CO), which were taken based on observations from the Sentinel-5P. The results obtained in the population aspect indicate that the population density correlation coefficient value is higher than other aspects of the population, with R values respectively 0.526 for CO and 0.762 for NO2. NDBI (Normalized Difference Built-Up Index) and the number of vehicles were also added. It was found that NDBI at a district scale has a strong effect on increasing levels of NO2, but not with CO. Then, an analysis using the number of vehicles was also carried out. However, the results for both types of pollutants show no significant effect. An interesting fact obtained is that NO2 always has a higher correlation than CO when it meets all the variables that have been researched.
