Abstract
Moringa oleifera leaves for traditional medicinal plants and as food has been widely used in Indonesia and several regions in the world by boiling Moringa oleifera leaves using water as a solvent before consumption. Moringa oleifera leaves contain active compounds such as phenols, flavonoids and tannins. These active compounds can be helpful as an antioxidant. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity and lethality dose of the aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera leaves. The method used to obtain the LC50 value is using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test. The final concentration tested Moringa oleifera leaves were 50, 100, 500 and 1000 ppm. Antioxidant activity test using UV-Visible spectrophotometric method with DPPH to obtain the IC50 value of Moringa oleifera leaf aqueous extract. The results of the LC50 of Moringa oleifera leaf aqueous extract were 475.15 ppm, and the IC50 value of Moringa oleifera leaf aqueous extract was 217.21 mg/g with a moderate antioxidant value. This study concludes that the aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera leaves is medium toxic based on Clarkson's toxicity criterion with moderate antioxidant value.
