Determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Selected Soils from Al-Diwaniyah governorate, Iraq-Case Study

Abstract

Abstract This study includes determination of 16 (PAHs ) compounds from soils of Al-Diwaniyah governorate in six polluted sites from August 2020 to May 2021, (PAHs) compounds have carcinogenic and mutagenic activity in biological systems, so their identification in soil samples is considered important. Soxhlet extraction is used to extract polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and concentration of these compounds in all samples was determined by using (GC). The summation of all (PAHs) compounds during ten months were (4842.666667 ppm), among all these compounds Benzo[G, H, I]Perylene recorded the maximum cumulative value of (388.8333333 ppm) whereas the minimum value was for Acenapthylene (219.9 ppm).
