Abstract
1. An increased sensitivity of intact red cells to nitrites has been demonstrated in children, pregnant women and patients with carcinomata.
2. The cause of this phenomenon is as yet unexplained.
3. Further work is needed before the reliability of this technique as a test for carcinoma or pregnancy can be assessed.
