Abstract
Reading University Library installed a Sirsi Unicorn library management system in 1997. This paper provides a discussion of the impact of implementing such a client/server system and describes some of the new features offered: Electronic Data Interchange, automatic e‐mailing of system‐generated notices, holds and recalls and so on. The impact of the new system on staff within the library and with other university departments is also discussed. The paper concludes with a list of future projects planned and overall impressions of the system.
