Corporate Real Estate Management in Europe and the US

Abstract

Summarizes the results of a recent survey of chief real estate officers (CREOs) from major organizations in Europe and the United States. The survey was supported by the Industrial Development Research Council (IDRC) and the International Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives (NACORE International), leading professional associations concerned with this field. The survey suggests that American CREOs may be more efficient in managing their real estate than their European colleagues, while the latter consider various areas of management knowledge and skills of greater importance than the former. This is reflected in the greater incidence of formal policies, functions, and activities regarding corporate real estate in Europe than in the United States. This apparent “paradox” may indicate comparative maturity and stability of this professional field in the United States.
