Abstract
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to compare creativity and psychometric IQ and to explain why creativity is often related to mental disturbances.Design/methodology/approachThe approach taken is that of theoretical analysis.FindingsPsychometric IQ is found to be related to low probability of neural transmission errors. On the other hand, creativity is related to the existence of some neural transmission errors, and therefore to mental disorders.Originality/valueThe findings presented in the paper may be applied to education; to the increase of both psychometric IQ and creativity.
