Abstract
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to indicates the history and nature of Library Review over 80 years.Design/methodology/approachA chronological narrative highlights the main themes and personalities involved in the history of the journal.FindingsLibrary Review has changed in nature and outlook since its foundation although many of its professional fundamentals remain unchanged.Practical implicationsDiscusses the history of one of the longest running library journals and as such should be of practical interest to library historians and those interested in journal publishing.Originality/valueCelebrates the 80th anniversary of Library Review, written by a former editor, the second‐longest‐serving incumbent at the journal.
