Abstract
Aims: The aim of this study is to characterize on the emergence and seedling characteristics of the mung bean genotypes obtained from Turkey and the registered cultivars obtained from abroad.Methods and Results: In the research, 50 mung bean genotypes collected from different provinces of Turkey and 4 mung bean varieties imported from abroad were used. The study was conducted as a pot experiment in 2021 at Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture. In the study, emergence rate, length and width of cotyledon leaves, chlorophyll content and anthocyanin status were determined. The emergence rate of the genotypes was 45 - 100%, the cotyledon leaf lengths were 22.60 - 43.38 mm, the cotyledon leaf width was 7.42 - 4.92 mm, the chlorophyll content varied between 26.70 - 37.70 and anthocyanin was detected in the stems of 48 genotypes. As a result of the correlation analysis, the highest positive and significant relationship was found between cotyledon leaf length and cotyledon leaf width (r=0.82). As a result of principal component analysis, 2 principal component axes were obtained, which define 74.73% of the total variation of genotypes. As a result of the cluster analysis, it was determined that mung bean genotypes were collected in 4 groups.Conclusions: The phenotypical characterization of plant genetic resources is very important for plant breeding and breeders. It was also determined by multiple comparison tests that the emergence and seedling characteristics of mung bean genotypes showed wide variation.Significance and Impact of the Study: According to the results obtained from the study, it was determined that there was a wide variation in the emergence and seedling characteristics of the genotypes. By defining the mung bean genotypes in Turkey in terms of seedling and emergence characteristics, it contributed both the current variation situation was revealed, and to the agronomic and morphological studies to be done in the mung bean later on.
