Abstract
Life expectancy in several countries has been increasing and it is more common to find a higher percentage of adults over 60 years of age. With age, diseases that affect health appear and symptoms of pressure and the appearance of high blood pressure frequently appear. The research carries out a study of those over 60 years of age in the Sara Espíndola de Burbano Asylum in the city of Tulcán, most of whom have hypertension. The research is qualitative and quantitative with a field study in addition to the bibliographic review, it uses theoretical and empirical methods and a survey is used with the purpose of obtaining information that helps the analyzes carried out and obtains results that allow taking measures to prevent the disease. It was found that the majority of older adults suffer from high blood pressure, in some cases together with other diseases that involve the consumption of various medications. The adults under study show that their relatives have the disease, which shows that it is hereditary in most cases. It can be seen that the elderly in the Asilo have adequate nutrition but lack an active life with the development of physical and recreational activities that contribute to a better quality of life.
