Abstract
Introduction: the diagnosis of type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in a child impacts family dynamics, which is why it is necessary to understand the phenomenon from effective adaptation, an essential reason to have a mid-range theory that allows analyzing family adaptation in the care of children with T1D. Objective: develop the mid-range theory “Family adaptation in caring for children with type 1 diabetes”. Methods: the theory was developed from Fawcett's methodological proposal in which concepts of interest are identified, the concepts and propositions are classified according to the phenomenon, the propositions are organized hierarchically, and the diagram that addresses the phenomenon is constructed. Results: the mid-range theory “Family adaptation in the care of children with type 1 diabetes” is proposed, which allows us to understand and effectively address the challenges that families face in caring for their children with cancer; which helps to validate and refine the propositions, which in turn will contribute to the growth and advancement of knowledge in this field. Conclusions: the Midrange Theory “Family adaptation in the care of children with T1D” (AFDT1) allows us to understand family functioning in the face of diagnosis and coexistence with T1D due to its theoretical integration with empirical knowledge. It is suggested to test the theory through quasi-experimental or experimental studies
