Abstract
ABSTRACTA simple and general procedure for calculating the equilibrium improvement lag in a livestock dissemination system is presented. The lag is conveniently measured in terms of the number of years of genetic change that it represents, and depends on the age and on the genetic superiority of the parents used in each step of the dissemination system. The total lag is the sum of the lags in all steps, weighting each step by the proportion of genes going through it.
