Abstract
It has been shown that the main factor which influences the local distribution of the lugworm at Whitstable is the depth of the muddy sand overlying the clay stratum below. In places this clay is furrowed by straight channels which are revealed only by the arrangement of the lugworm castings. These are more numerous along the channels.Migration of adult lugworms has been shown to occur, most freely in the spring.
