The MedusaModeeria rotundaand its hydroidStegopoma Fastigiatum, with a Review ofStegopomaandStegolaria

Abstract

The hydroid of the medusaModeeria rotunda(formerlyTiaranna rotunda) has been found to be the thecate speciesStegopoma fastigiatum. The medusa has been obtained from the hydroid and reared to maturity. The stages of development of the medusa are described and figured, and its occurrence and habits are discussed. The affinities of the medusa are considered: it is shown to belong, together with the the genusChromatonema, to the family Laodiceidae.
