Some observations on the gills of the oceanic sunfish,Mola mola

Abstract

The oceanic sunfishMola molais occasionally found close to our shores, its normal habitat being the oceans throughout the world. It is replaced byMola ramsayionly in the South Pacific (Fraser-Brunner, 1951). Specimens which are caught around the British Isles normally come from the North Atlantic as a result of being washed inshore when the warm westerly winds are blowing during the summer.
