Abstract
Some preliminary experiments are described which indicate that the larvae ofScrupocellaria reptans(L.),Spirorbis corallinaede Silva and Knight-Jones formareptansl'Hardy and Quiévreux andSpirorbis (Janua) pagenstecheriQuatrefages prefer to settle on the younger parts of the fronds ofLaminaria digitata(Huds.) Lamour. Two possible explanations for the ecological significance of this behaviour are discussed and some supporting evidence is given.
